A decade of Alàra

A decade of Alàra

Released in a limited first edition of 250, A Decade of Alára, features a foreword by Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados; a personal letter from Reni Folawiyo; and contributions from an international constellation of Alára’s longtime collaborators. The first of its kind, this collectible volume includes archival images from past events, interactive keepsakes and even a secret recipe from Nok, Alára’s in-house pan-African restaurant.

Anchored in the vibrant city of Lagos, and led by Reni Folawiyo, Alára has significantly shaped the landscape of contemporary African culture, both locally and globally over the last decade. It has redefined retail spaces as places of cultural dialogue, empowered local talents and attracted international attention to African aesthetics and narratives. Its influence extends beyond commerce, serving as an incubator for ideas, a curator of stories and a champion of artistic excellence.

The first publication by Alára Books, Alára’s new publishing arm dedicated to celebrating and preserving the richness of African culture and history. The 4.5kg monograph features over 650 photographs, several interactive elements, hand-inserted die-cut pages, as well as a foil and blind debossed cover.
